About the Same

Robin noted this morning that we sound like a broken record in our updates these days.

So as you can probably guess, Ryland is still having some trouble with eating and reflux.  He had fewer instances over night, but still hasn't been able to eat and hold down much.

The doctors did alter his feeding approach yesterday.  They removed the feeding tube and stopped the orders to feed him 60mls every 3 hours like clock work.

Instead, Robin fed him by bottle when he indicated he was hungry.  To be honest that doesn't happen often, little guy likes to sleep more than anything.

So he took in a smaller amount yesterday, but also didn't vomit as many times.  We hope this is progress, but also understand there are good and bad days.  We are shooting for a few consecutive days of good eating!

After Ryland's surgery, I had an idea that I hope will help him remember and be thankful of the wonderful team of doctors and nurses who are taking care of him.  We bought a Duke onesie and fabric pens for all of his "angels" to sign, so we can frame it and show it to him once he's old enough to understand the battle he fought and the people who saved him.

We even managed to snag Dr. Lodge's autograph yesterday.  We were not sure how receptive he would be to our silly little request, but Michael asked, he said sure ... and even cracked a joke, "[signing] this is harder than the actual surgery."

Everyone is doing well.  I'd be lying if I said tired and exhausted haven't started to creep into our vocabularies.  Most of all we are thankful.
